The cake was frosted with marshmallow fondant from this recipe.

It was pretty easy to make (I used the microwave method and didn't find it nearly as sticky as the recipe said it would be), handled just like regular fondant and tasted better. However, it was still more difficult, and not as tasty, as normal frosting. I'm not sure if I'll make fondant again. Maybe to make flowers or other decorations, but probably not to cover a whole cake.
